The 2012-13 school year is off to a great start with a few new faces in our classrooms and many great activities and initiatives for our students. At the high school, as we continue to work at improving our school climate, we have fully implemented our Positive Behavior Support program this year. We have several PBS activities scheduled throughout the year and reward our “Fabulous Falcons” with weekly prize drawings. This is a great way to promote positive behavior and recognize student academic achievement. 

Our new “Online Learning Lab” has opened at the high school and is run by teacher Laura Withers (with assistance from Marge Caid and Shawn Griffith). This program offers dozens of online classes for our students in the form of interactive, computer modules. This learning environment gives our students a chance to experience an online class with the advantage of having a classroom teacher available for assistance as needed. This is a great opportunity for our students to experience classes that we may not offer, take classes that do not fit into their schedule due to dual enrollment and utilize credit recovery options. Classes can be accessed both at home and school for flexible learning opportunities.

This year we have also ramped up our Response to Intervention or RTI process through our Advisory classes. This Advisory time allows teachers to provide timely, targeted interventions to students needing extra time, re-teaching or re-testing options as well as grade monitoring for all students. Additionally, our district continues to focus on school improvement through the use of data and technology to impact curriculum and instruction. This use of data, coupled with best instructional practice and effective interventions, allows us to provide the best opportunities for all students to reach their fullest potential academically.
